Description
At Camp Laurel South, a waterski counselor/instructor serves as a dual-role Activity Specialist and Cabin Counselor. You are responsible for providing high-quality technical instruction on the water while serving as a mentor and role model for a group of campers.
As a Waterski Instructor, you will spend your days on Crescent Lake in Casco, Maine, teaching campers of all skill levels (ages 7–15). You will operate modern equipment, including ski boats, to lead sessions in waterskiing and wakeboarding.
You will lead daily lessons focusing on technique, progression, and safety for skiing, wakeboarding, and kneeboarding.
- Safely drive high-performance towboats, maintaining a constant focus on swimmer and rider safety.
- Ensure all campers and staff wear Personal Flotation Devices (PFDs) and strictly adhere to waterfront safety protocols.
- Conduct daily safety checks and basic maintenance on boats, skis, and boards.
- Live in a cabin with 8–12 campers, overseeing their well-being during meals, rest hours, and evening activities.
Requirements
Laurel South seeks high-energy individuals—primarily college students and teachers—who possess a sincere desire to work with children in a fast-paced environment.
- Significant experience in waterskiing or wakeboarding; prior instructional experience is preferred.
- Valid driver’s license is required. CPR and First Aid are highly preferred, and Lifeguard Training (LGT) or
- Must be available for the full summer season (typically early June through mid-August).
- Strong leadership, patience, maturity, and the ability to work as part of a close-knit team.
- Ability to remain "on" and energetic throughout demanding 7-week sessions with limited alone time.
