- Seasonal Overnight Camp Waterfront Director
Description
Lead the waterfront at a boys’ camp with a longstanding tradition of excellence. For a camper, the waterfront is the best hour of the day. You run all of it: the swimming, the boating, the watersports, and the young staff who make it happen.
THE WATERFRONT YOU’LL RUN
- A clean Maine lake with a swim area and a boating area
- A ski and tow boat, a pontoon, and a fleet of canoes, kayaks, paddleboards, and sailboats
- Waterskiing, tubing, wakeboarding, kneeboarding, sailing, and fishing
- A bongo inflatable, a climbing-and-slide inflatable, and diving boards
- Progressive swim lessons that parallel Red Cross Learn to Swim
Our program is built on individual challenge, and the waterfront is where boys meet it most directly. Campers advance through our swim levels one at a time. Each level a boy earns unlocks more waterfront elective time for the fun beyond lessons: the tow boat, the inflatables, the deep water. You run that system. You set the standard, provide the highest level of coaching for each level, and decide when a camper is ready to move up.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Run first-day swim checks and place every camper by ability
- Build and lead the lesson program, from first-time swimmers to confident ones
- Keep lifeguard coverage and the buddy and sign-in system tight at all times
- Drive the tow boat for watersports, or train and supervise the staff who do
- Oversee sailing, paddling, and fishing
- Run and maintain the inflatables and diving boards safely
- Inspect docks, boats, PFDs, and rescue gear daily and pull anything unsafe
- Own the waterfront emergency action plan and run rescue drills
- Coach, schedule, and mentor your waterfront staff
WHO YOU’LL LEAD
- About twelve waterfront staff, most of them 17 to 22, including CITs and international counselors
- For their waterfront and safety work, they report to you
- Camp administration handles their cabin and program life, so your focus stays on the water
- Mentoring these young staff is a core part of the job, not a side duty
