Overview:
Camp Fernwood is seeking dedicated and enthusiastic Water Activities Instructors to lead a
variety of water-based programs and ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for campers. The
ideal candidate will have a passion for aquatic activities and the ability to foster a love for water
sports among campers.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead Water Activities: Organize and supervise activities such as swimming, kayaking,
canoeing, paddleboarding, and other water sports for campers of all skill levels.
Safety First: Ensure the safety of all participants by enforcing safety protocols, conducting
safety briefings, and maintaining a clean and safe waterfront area.
Instruct and Guide: Teach proper techniques and skills in various water activities, providing
individualized instruction and encouragement to campers.
Emergency Preparedness: Be trained in first aid and CPR, and be prepared to respond to
emergencies effectively and calmly.
Equipment Maintenance: Oversee the maintenance and organization of water sports
equipment, ensuring everything is in good working condition.
Encourage Teamwork: Foster a spirit of teamwork and collaboration among campers during
water activities, promoting a positive and inclusive environment.
Communicate with Parents: Provide updates to parents about their child’s progress and
participation in water activities during camp sessions.

Requirements
Qualifications:
Certifications: Current lifeguard certification, CPR, and first aid certification preferred but not
required.
Experience: Previous experience teaching or leading water activities, ideally in a camp or
recreational setting.
Strong Communication Skills: Ability to effectively communicate with campers, parents,
and staff, fostering a positive atmosphere.
Leadership Skills: Strong leadership and organizational skills to manage groups of campers
effectively and safely.
Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively with other staff members to create a cohesive
camp experience.
