Description
The Head of the Outdoor Living Skills program joins a team of other Activity Heads learning and working within the structure of a well-established teaching system.
The Head of Outdoor Living Skills will:
- help campers explore and discover the natural world on camp’s 100 acres (including vernal pools, forest land, stream and lakeshore habitat)
- serve as the lead instructor in classes
- mentor and support counselors in their teaching
- plan and lead day hikes in the local area
- facilitate overnight camping experiences for campers (on and off camp)
- develop and deign an instructional program (with guidance) including the following topics:
- fire building
- outdoor cooking
- wilderness First Aid skills
- basic compass/map skills
- other areas of interest, e.g., gardening, plant and tree identification, raft building, etc.
Requirements
- Skills and experience in the outdoors and/or outdoor education
- Strong communication, interpersonal skills, with a team attitude
- Experience working with children
- Counselors must be 19 years old and/or completed a year of college
- High level of responsibility, accountability, and flexibility
- Ability to pass a criminal background check
