Description

The Head of the Outdoor Living Skills program joins a team of other Activity Heads learning and working within the structure of a well-established teaching system. 

The Head of Outdoor Living Skills will:

• help campers explore and discover the natural world on camp’s 100 acres (including vernal pools, forest land, stream and lakeshore habitat)
• serve as the lead instructor in classes
• mentor and support counselors in their teaching
• plan and lead day hikes in the local area
• facilitate overnight camping experiences for campers (on and off camp)
• develop and deign an instructional program (with guidance) including the following topics:
  • fire building
  • outdoor cooking
  • wilderness First Aid skills
  • basic compass/map skills
  • other areas of interest, e.g., gardening, plant and tree identification, raft building, etc.

Requirements

• Skills and experience in the outdoors and/or outdoor education
• Strong communication, interpersonal skills, with a team attitude
• Experience working with children
• Counselors must be 19 years old and/or completed a year of college
• High level of responsibility, accountability, and flexibility
• Ability to pass a criminal background check
