Are you ready to trade your morning alarm for the call of a loon? We’re looking for a Canoeing Activity Counselor to lead our waterfront adventures at Camp Arcadia.

Our canoeing program is a camp favorite, offering everything from quiet morning paddles on the glassy waters of Pleasant Lake to high-energy "canoe-over-canoe" rescue drills. As a counselor, you’ll be more than just an instructor; you’ll be a guide helping girls master the art of the J-stroke, navigate the shoreline, and prepare for exciting out-of-camp trips. If you love the water and want to spend your summer in a red canoe under the Maine sun, this is your spot.

What You’ll Do:

• Teach 4 one-hour canoeing activity periods per day.
  
• Instruct campers on safety, equipment care, and various paddling strokes.
  
• Organize and participate in fun waterfront events like regattas and "War Canoe" races.
  
• Ensure the canoe fleet and gear are well-maintained and stored safely.
  
• Provide lifeguarding support for the overall waterfront program.

Requirements

What You’ll Need:

• Paddling Prowess: Proficiency in canoeing techniques (strokes, maneuvers, and safety).
• Instructional Skills: Ability to teach campers of all ages (7–17) and skill levels.
• Waterfront Safety: Must be Lifeguard and CPR certified (we can help you find a certification course if needed!).
• Trip Ready: Comfortable assisting with or leading day trips and overnight canoe excursions.
• The Arcadia Spirit: A positive, "can-do" attitude and a passion for working with kids in a tech-free environment.
• The Commitment: Must be available for the full summer season (mid-June through mid-August) in Otisfield, Maine.
