Are you passionate about the natural world and making a difference in the lives of youth? Camp Ketcha is a dynamic outdoor day camp located on 107 acres of fields, woods, marsh, and wetlands in Scarborough, Maine. Each summer, we hire over 90 staff members to support campers through hands-on activities, outdoor exploration, and meaningful community-building experiences.
Camp Lifeguards – Junior LG Ages 16+ & Senior LG Ages 18+ - Junior LG Starting at $16.50/hr & Senior LG Starting at $17.50/hr
Lifeguards at Camp Ketcha are responsible for the safety, supervision, and well-being of all campers and staff in and around the waterfront. This role requires constant vigilance, sound judgment, and a calm, confident presence to ensure a safe and positive waterfront experience. Lifeguards support daily swim programming, enforce waterfront policies, and maintain a clean, organized, and well-managed waterfront area, including the pool, pond, changing rooms, pumphouse, and lifeguard facilities.
In addition to maintaining active surveillance and responding promptly to emergencies, Lifeguards play an important role in camper development by fostering a supportive, inclusive environment and modeling positive behavior. Lifeguards conduct swim assessments, complete required documentation such as injury reports, and collaborate closely with counselors and leadership to ensure appropriate supervision and behavior management at the waterfront. As members of the larger camp team, Lifeguards may also assist with camp-wide activities, daily check-ins and dismissals, and special events. Requirements
Required Job Qualifications
- Experience working with children and youth.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Commitment to Ketcha Outdoors’ mission, vision, and values.
- Ability to maintain a safe environment for yourself, campers, and staff, with a clear focus on risk management.
- Strong attention to detail and sound judgment.
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with staff at all levels.
- Demonstrated personal integrity and professional conduct.
- Reliability, flexibility, and dependability in a fast-paced environment.
- Completion of Mandated Reporter Training (provided by Ketcha during staff training).
- Current CPR and First Aid certification.
- Current lifeguard certification or ability to obtain certification prior to the start of employment.
- Comfort working in and around water.
- Comfort supervising and communicating with groups of campers.
Preferred Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
